Waiting for Spring - Purple Crocus

Keep in mind that the photo is a bit wider in comparison to the height than your paper is, and try not to run out of room for all the flowers.

I am using a Permanent Magenta and Permanent Rose, which are not colors on your materials list, but ones I like to use for flowers.  If you are using tube colors, you might want to get those the next time you are buying paint.  In the meantime, you can use any purples or pinks that you have.

I wet each petal first, and then added the magenta or the rose, or both and let them fade into each other, and in some cases, fade to white.  I skipped around so that I didn't let any of the petals touch each other while wet.  I let them dry before going on.

All of the petals have their first wash of paint now.

I went back now and added darker areas where needed.

The leaves are mostly Sap Green, a few have an undercoating of yellow, and the dark ones have Ultramarine Blue mixed in with the Sap Green.

I'm not happy with the background.  I mixed some thin puddles of Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, and Magenta, and floated them into the background.  It came out a little blotchier than I had wanted.  I ran out of my Arches paper and used some Strathmore that I had for emergency use.  It doesn't do as well with "washy" backgrounds.  Instead of introducing a brown for the earth tones at the bottom, I just mixed the three colors, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, and Magenta to make a brown.
