It's Time for an Abstract

I was tired about thinking about snow, and decided that it was time for an abstract.  But since I can't seem to start an abstract without help, I saw these two designs on Facebook, by one of the artists that I follow named Karen Knutson.  I have "borrowed" from her a few times for one of our lessons.  She has evidently committed to doing a design a day for the month of February.  Sometimes she paints her designs, but these are just left as inked.  I personally like inkwork left alone, whether abstract or realistic.  But, since this is a watercolor class, we will be using watercolor eventually.

Remember, we are not going to copy her designs.  Just use them for inspiration.

Then I found these two designs in free clip art - I think they were designs for simple stained glass.

I'm going to use the second one, but you can choose whichever you like, or make one up of your own.

You can't see my drawing, but I used a ruler to draw out an 8 x 8 inch square, and attempted to copy the second design.  I used the tape roll and the two plates for the curves.  The drawing came out slightly different because of the sizes of my curve templates.

I went over my drawing in ink.  I used my Micron pen, which is waterproof.  If your pen is not waterproof, leave it with pencil, and make your lines as dark as you can.

This is a closeup of the left corner of my design, where I "doodled" in one of the shapes.  I used a different way of filling in the shape, instead of the basket weave type lines that she used.  Although I may use those somewhere in my design too.

This is what I have done so far.   It may take me a while to get it all inked in.  If you want to start:

You can break the big shapes up into smaller ones.

You should  leave some shapes without filling in.

You can paint some shapes black.

While you are working on your design, think about which shapes you want to paint, and what colors you want to use.  I'm thinking I might keep mine just white, black and red, but I can always change my mind, and often do.

This is "White, Black and Red Abstract".  As  you can see, I added some shapes to those already there.  Somehow I ended up with an Easter Egg in the middle of my abstract.  LOL  Can't wait to see what you all came up with.
