I painted the green areas first, with Sap Green. (I forgot to take a photo)
When the green dried, I painted all the black parts, leaving the areas at the bottom kind of vague and soft. I made the black with Ultramarine + Burnt Sienna, but you can use black if you wish. I tried ti make the black a little rough at the edges.
I used the leftover "black" mixture very diluted to make a light gray. I painted it in "hairy" strokes everywhere that his face was darker. It shows up darker in my painting than it does in this photo. I also darkened the greens a bit on the bottom by mixing sap green and ultramarine blue.
I put the eyes in with a black fine tip Sharpie. I darkened the shadows on his face a bit more (still doesn't look as dark as it is in my painting). I darkened the background a little more, and added some vague branches at the top while it was still wet. I put in the white hairs that I missed on the right side of his body by rubbing it out with a small brush, and when it dried I used an Exacto knife to make the hairs more obvious. I also used the Exacto to make some white hairs at the edges of his face, around his mouth and chin. Have fun with this!
