Tulips Part 1

In keeping with our "Spring" theme,  today's subject is tulips.

1.When you start your drawing, start at the bottom of your paper and place the leaves.  How much space you have at the top of the paper doesn't matter, but the leaves and flowers must look like they are growing from the bottom and not floating in the air.

2. Draw only 2 or 3 main flowers.  The rest will be done as a soft (wet) background later.

3.  You may have noticed that I lightly scribbled in some of the spaces between the leaves.  That's so I can tell which are spaces and which are leaves.  I will erase those after I've painted in the leaves.

Remember, you can click on the pictures to make them bigger.

I wet each petal with water and used alizarin crimson with a little bit of ultramarine blue to get close to the color in the reference.  (You can use straight alizarin crimson or whatever red or pink you have if you wish.)
Skip around and don't paint right next to one that is still wet.

Do the same for the light leaves, wet first and then use sap green.  You can paint the darker leaves directly with sap green mixed with a little ultramarine blue, without wetting first.

Now that the flowers and leaves are painted, it's time to work on the background.  I am going to do it wet-in-wet, probably in two stages.
